The Amateur Film Makers Group (AFMG) is a non profit association of people who are passionate about film making but not necessarily working in or get their primary income from the film industry. The group provides a means of Networking both with amateur and professional film makers. In addition, members share learning experiences and work together on amateur film projects. Any profits generated go back to the group to make further projects and facilities possible. In time the group will own its own professional film equipment for loan to members wishing to work on projects.
The organisational ideology is to have independently run chapters operating all over the world which interact via the internet and work in a co-operative manner.
The group is open to all people with interests in all fields of film making. This include fields such as scriptwriting, production, distribution, directing, acting, lighting, cinematography, sound, music, editing and post production to name a few.
The aim of the group is to provide an artistic release for those with passion in film making but maybe not yet realised their dream.
The group is for students or graduates of film and TV schools who need to further craft their skills and help share their knowledge with others who similarly are at the genesis of their film making careers. The group is also for people without any formal film training but have a desire to be involved with film making. The AMFG provides a Synergetic association of people. In addition the group provides short courses for people interested in film making but who may be unable to enroll in a full-time film school.
I envisage the group to eventually have chapters in all major cites and countries. They would work independently but keep in contact and pool resources. Say for instance the UAE group wants to film in South Africa then they would work in conjunction with the South Africa based chapter. Similarly this would work for all countries where a chapter exists.
The AFMG will host a Skills Register in which its members and their skills can be listed online thereby making available a ready resource for the film making community. A search facility will make it simple to generate a list of suitably qualified people whose talents are being sought.
Most amateur film makers of no budget, low budget or self funded productions struggle to get their creations seen by a wider audience, let alone an international one. The AFMG is striving to address this issue by collaborating with Amateur Film Makers from around the globe, assembling an extensive online Amateur Film Archive and providing an Online Global Distribution Channel. Via this channel it will be possible for anyone from anywhere to preview any AFMG film in its archive for free. It will be further possible to buy your own personal copy by either download or shipped BD or DVD for very reasonable prices.
The Online Global Film Distribution Channel will thereby empower all film makers to present and sell their creations on the international stage.
Should you be interested in this group or wish to participate please contact your local chapter director or if there are no chapters in your area then simply drop me a line.
